(updated January 2023)
Purpose
To set guidelines for CBFC teams wishing to fundraise to help reduce some or all of the operational costs of the team. The team’s operational costs should be determined in a budget to be approved by a majority of parents/guardians of players on the team.
Guidelines
Types of Fundraising
CBFC teams are expected to exercise good judgment in the type of fundraising activities conducted. Activities which encourage or promote tobacco or alcohol are not permitted. All fundraising activities must be approved by a majority of team parents/guardians.
Sponsorship
Teams may approach businesses for sponsorship, but cannot promote or encourage alcohol or tobacco products. Company logos can only be placed on team jerseys if the team owns the jerseys. This could be through sponsorship or through purchase of the jerseys from the club. Jersey’s, kits and logos acquired through sponsorship must be approved by the CBFC Executive.
Fundraising Limits
Teams are expected to be reasonable with respect to fundraising limits. Fundraising should not be used to create a situation of “free registration” or a situation of families earning cash or gift cards as a benefit of fundraising (player travel excluded)
Fundraising proceeds in excess of $5,000.00 must be reported to the CBFC Executive with documentation of fundraising amounts and a proposal for how these funds will be appropriately used.
If a team is planning to travel outside of the Maritime Provinces, or if a team reaches the National Championships, the team will be permitted to raise additional funds provided the budget for such travel is approved by the CBFC Executive.
Surplus Funds
If the fundraising account balance at the end of the season is less than $250.00, the balance can be used to maintain the team bank account until the next season of competition.
In the event there is a greater surplus of team fundraising funds at the end of the season, management of these funds will be a joint decision between the team and the CBFC executive. If there is lack of consensus, the CBFC executive will make the final decision as to the allocation of surplus funds.
Communication and Record Keeping
One individual (manager, coach, parent or other designated person) must be identified as the fundraising representative for the team. This person will discuss fundraising initiatives/issues with the Club Executive as needed and will be responsible for ensuring that fundraising guidelines are respected. This representative must keep accurate financial records of team fundraising progress and should be prepared to share financial records related to fundraising with the CBFC Executive at the completion of each season.
Discipline
If a team does not comply with this fundraising policy, the coach and/or manager may be subject to sanction, including suspension, by the CBFC Executive.
