SHE'S ONE OF OUR OWN...Ava MacDonald in her CAPERS orange.
CAPERS Academy U17AAA Girls striker Ava MacDonald scored for Team Nova Scotia just 36 SECONDS into her Canada Games debut against Yukon in St John's, Newfoundland, on Tuesday.
The livewire island striker thumped home a header from a Julia Akao cross to send the Bluenosers on their way to a 7-0 defeat of their opening rivals in the Games.
MacDonald's exploits come hot on the heels of fellow Academy player Iven Gouthro scoring for the men's team in their 4-0 win over Northwest Territories as his side made the Bronze Medal match but eventually had to settle for fourth spot.
Ava and her team will now tackle New Brunswick tomorrow (Thursday) as they look to advance towards the medal matches.
CAPERS Academy Technical Director Iain King smiled: "Ava is one of our dedicated coaches on the SheCANCoach initiative when she is not playing and we are always joking with there that since she learned to drive she is last to get on the field because she always cuts it fine.
"So everyone was delighted to watch with pride on Tuesday night and see her turn up early for work for once!
"Seriously, what a moment for Ava and her family and to have both of our CAPERS players representing Nova Scotia be on target for the province in the Canada Games is huge for us.
"Our younger players look up to role models like Ava and Iven and we are unbelievably proud of their achievements wearing that blue jersey."
