CAPERS 17s GIRLS MAKE NSSL CUP FINAL!

CAPERS Academy U17AAA Girls have set up a Nova Scotia Soccer League (NSSL) Cup Final clash with Suburban FC after a dramatic last four triumph on Wednesday night.

The island girls were trailing 1-0 in their semi-final tie with Inter Halifax at StFX University when midfielder Greta Parsons crashed in a thumping header that Inter's defenders on the line couldn't keep out to tie it up.

That meant the game went to a penalty shootout and the CAPERS held their nerve superbly with Alyse Tierney, Sophia Peach and Allison Wadden all successful from the spot as outstanding keeper Mikayla Dwyer pulled off the saves required to clinch it 3-2.

This is the second time the CAPERS have gone this route to get through, they also downed United DFC in he last eight in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 tie.

Now Head Coach Mitch Hanna's team, who this season have played without keeper Sadie Delorey and star striker Ava MacDonald after they were selected for the Canada Games squad, is in the Final where they will face league leaders Suburban at St Mary's University in Halifax on the evening of Friday August 15.

This has been a landmark summer for the CAPERS Academy Girls, earlier this month the club's U13AA squad won both the Premier and Division One brackets at the Winsloe Charlottetown Royals tournament on Prince Edward Island.

Now the first team to mark the CAPERS return to Tier One soccer three years ago has capped their journey by reaching a huge showpiece occasion in what is becoming a season of landmarks for top level youth soccer on the island.
