STRAIT Soccer Club are moving into the summer season for 2025 on a high as registrations surge and dedicated volunteer coaches throw their support behind the organisation.
This week Soccer Cape Breton's Regional Director of Development Iain King was in Port Hawkesbury for a special coaching clinic and took 19 coaches though their paces in a workshop covering sessions that will help players from U4-U15.
One group of coaches enjoyed work that will guide them with Minis players before colleagues - including a coaching team who rushed straight from their opening U15s game in the SCB League against North Inverness United - got work in education that will help them inspire older ages.
Director of Development Iain said: "It was so refreshing to see so many coaches in the workshop and to see the progress being made in the Strait under the tireless leadership of Drew MacQuarrie who is adding to the excellent work of Alex Thomson of promoting the game in the area.
"The coaches across the board were so engaged with a special mention to Eric Wood and Phillip Smith who came straight across from coaching the 15s in their league opener to take part in the coach education on-field module."
Iain's coaching visits so far this summer have already taken in North Inverness, the Strait and Riverview as the work to build the island's growing coaching roster continues.
The Strait technical lead Drew revealed that total registrations for the club have soared from 148 to 205 and he said: "To go up by 57 players in one year is really heartening for us and I feel a sign that people like the experience the kids are getting at the club.
"We are also indebted to all the coaches who have come forward to give their time and effort to the players this summer."
