BEATRICE CURRIE is a shining example for young female soccer players on the island of Cape Breton.
She rose through the ranks at CBFC to star for Team Nova Scotia and then realised her dream of playing Varsity soccer in the United States, firstly at the University of Memphis before shining for Mississippi College.
Beatrice graduated with an MBA and is now Finance Manager for luxury golf destination brand Cabot.
Last week she took time out of her busy life to talk to the current generation of CAPERS Academy girls about her journey in soccer and life since those formative days on the island.
The Zoom Sports Psychology session on High Performance Mindset was part of the program being delivered to the Academy girls by former CBU CAPERS player and CAPERS Academy coach Chelsea Currie.
Beatrice said: "I was thrilled when Chelsea asked me to get involved in this initiative. The girls were so engaged and I really enjoyed the experience."
Sports Psychology is a foundation block of the new AAA programs in the CAPERS Academy programs. Players are working on modules on subjects such as Performance Anxiety, Goal-Setting and establishing a High Performance Mindset.
Regional Director of Soccer Development Iain King said: "Chelsea and Beatrice are superb role models for the girls. Over the last three years the CAPERS Academy has produced increasing numbers of players who have gone on to play soccer in Varsity environments.
"More importantly, though, these two great female soccer personalities are terrific PEOPLE who can affect the mindset and mental health of our young players just through telling the stories of their own struggles and successes both in soccer and life."
