AVA COMPLETES HAT-TRICK OF CAPERS IN CANADA GAMES SQUADS
CAPERS Academy prospect Ava MacDonald has clinched her slot in the Team Nova Scotia squad for the Canada Games in St John's, Newfoundland, in August.
The jet-paced striker scored three tournament goals overall and one in the 3-0 win in the Final over Newfoundland as her squad won the Atlantic Championship in Halifax earlier this month.
Now that key role in securing the Gold Medal has helped to propel gifted Ava into the Games squad who will made a dream trip to England to train and play next month.
Ava's success was hailed by her club Head Coach Mitch Hanna who is also Assistant Coach of the AUS Champions CBU CAPERS Women's Program.
Mitch insisted: "Ava making Team Nova Scotia doesn't come as a surprise. Her speed, skill, and tenacity make her a very dangerous and versatile attacking player. She is one of the top players in the province for her age, and I have no doubt she will be an impact player on this team.
"Beyond being a terrific player, Ava's work ethic, commitment and attitude are all outstanding. She is also a great teammate. It's always nice to see people who do things the "right way" be rewarded - Ava is a perfect example of this."
"Playing at the Canada Games will be an incredible opportunity and experience. We couldn't be more proud to have Ava representing CAPERS Academy and our island."
Ava will now become fully immersed in the Canada Games project this summer until after the Games are completed and her team must adapt and play their season without her.
Over the next three months until school is out, however, she will still train within the Academy and remain the positive example she has always been through her work in the Future Coach Initiative and the TELUS SheCANCoach project.
