CAPERS KEEPER SADIE IS CANADA GAMES BOUND

Mar. 26, 2025

CAPERS Academy goalkeeper Sadie Delorey has been selected in the Team Nova Scotia squad for the 2025 Canada Games in St.John's, Newfoundland, in August.

Shotstopper Sadie, now a member of the U17AAA Girls squad, has been a standout since she joined the island club from New Glasgow-based North Nova FC for the U15AAA season. Sadie began her soccer journey at U10 Girls with Antigonish Celtics in her hometown.

Sadie moved to North Nova United to be coached by Jackie Fitt after playing an indoor season with the club.

Delorey has flourished too within the CAPERS Academy and over the last two years has enjoyed honing her skills under the watchful gaze of CBU CAPERS Women's Varsity program no1 Ellie Lancaster, herself a former Team NS Canada Games keeper.

Ellie - who sparkled last season as her CBU side won the AUS Conference title before finishing fourth in the USPORTS National Championship - gives back to the community in her role as Head Girls Goalkeeping Coach within the Academy.

She smiled: “Sadie is such an incredible goalkeeper to coach. She works so hard day in and day out, always wanting to get better and work on her skills as much as she can.

"I have watched her for the past two years grow into such a confident and outstanding goalkeeper, there was never a doubt in my mind she was going to make the Canada Games team.

"When I first coached her I could see the potential she had from Day One and she has put in the work to turn that potential into her now being one of the best goalkeepers for her age in Nova Scotia. I am beyond proud of her and I know she will be amazing at the Games.”

Sadie's selection came hot on the heels of her playing a part in her squad clinching an Atlantic Championship Gold Medal with a 3-0 Final win over Newfoundland.

Now, while she will still train with her CAPERS team-mates until school is out at the end of June, the goalie will be thrust wholly into the Canada Games environment as Team NS prepare for the prestigious tournament with a glamour training trip to England in April and a summer season in the NSSL Senior Women's division.
