SCB MINIS AND SKILL CENTRE END ON A HIGH

Mar. 01, 2025

SOCCER CAPE BRETON'S Fall/Winter Minis and Skill Centre programs ended on a high Saturday March 1 with a special 4 v 4 Scoreboard Soccer Day.

Both initiatives have been a huge hit in the CBU Dome and now we look forward to seeing all of the players enrich our member clubs across the island over the spring and summer months.

The U5-U11 age groups fall wholly now into the development remit of the nine Canada Soccer Quality Providers across Cape Breton who are:

Albert Bridge SC

Glace Bay SC

New Waterford Wolves

North Inverness United

Northside Storm

Riverview SC

The Strait SC

Victoria County

Whitney Pier

Regional Director of Soccer Development Iain King said: "We have been blessed to have the Dome all winter and it has been a great training block on the Saturday mornings.

"With our U13AA Prospects Boys also training on Saturdays with Minis and Skill Centre on after them we have had over 200 kids coming through the doors every week and the energy has been awesome.

"We look forward to seeing the girls and boys now continuing their development journeys with their friends at their local clubs and encourage each and every one to register with the club nearest them to grow their love for the Beautiful Game.

"Within SCB we are huge fans of the Scoreboard Soccer concept - where players score a goal and run to the scoreboard to perform a task - and we had great fun with those games on Saturday. Everyone left with a smile on their face and that's always our aim."

U12 AND U13 PLAYERS IN THE CAPERS ACADEMY

Last summer Soccer Cape Breton ran a Regional Training Centre (RTC) squad for U12 players of both genders with the youngsters being aimed at playing for Team Cape Breton in two Soccer Nova Scotia Showcase events.

This was designed to help find the next U13 Provincial players but this time around Canada Soccer has now mandated that there will be no Provincial teams until U14 and therefore the Showcases have been scrapped.

After reviewing the options the way forward for players born 2012, 2013 and 2014 is as follows:

* CAPERS Academy will field Tier One teams in the Girls and Boys U13AA Nova Scotia Soccer League.

* There will also be U13 Prospects programs for Girls and Boys. These selected and invited players will train once a week within the Academy and still be able to register for local clubs. Some of the players are already within the CBFC programs and will be invited in, the remaining slots will be decided after an Open Session process.

PROSPECTS CAMP, AUGUST 11-15 2025

SOCCER CAPE BRETON will look to form the 2025/26 CAPERS Academy Prospects squad with the help of a fun and challenging Prospects Camp that will be held at Ness Timmons Field from August 11-15 with training running each day from 9am-1pm.

Registration for this camp will open next week and will be limited to players born in 2013 and 2014. The Camp will be capped at 40 players of each gender. Please look out for this registration launching on the site ahead of March Break.
