CAPERS Academy product Iven Gouthro spent last week in elite soccer company at the Halifax Wanderers U21 Development Camp.
The 17-year-old midfielder - who is bidding to be a member of the Team Nova Scotia Canada Games squad in 2025 - was one of the youngest players called to the event as the Canadian Premier League franchise run the rule over emerging talents.
Iven was joined in the camp by CBU CAPERS Varsity players Andre Beecher, Jamie Nicholson and Amadou Bayo as Wanderers look to piece together a U21 squad for an extended summer program.
Last summer CAPERS keeper Daniel Clarke was part of this program and captained HFX to a memorable penalty shootout win over English Premiership side Ipswich Town's U21 team at a sellout Ness Timmons Field.
Soccer Cape Breton's Regional Director of Development Iain King said: "Our main goal this year with Iven has been to keep challenging him in an environment that can ensure he makes the Final 18 for the Canada Games squad.
"In that regard he has a tailored training program that includes special sessions with our 21 Provincial players across the age groups.
"It's in these that I have seen some of his biggest growth moments as a person as he helps younger players around him to improve. That is vital in a program such as ours.
"One of the stated goals of the CAPERS Academy program is to produce more Varsity level soccer players who can star for CBU or other schools in North America.
"Iven is in that bracket and we are proud of his latest inclusion at Wanderers level, we wish him every success when the next steps for this squad are announced at the end of February."
