CAPE BRETON FC U17AAA Girls talents Sadie Delorey, Alyse Tierney and Ava MacDonald were on an emotional rollercoaster playing for Team Nova Scotia's Canada Games squad in the prestigious Disney Showcase in Orlando, Florida last weekend.
In Game One against Valley FC from Connecticut striker Ava got off to a flyer and was sparkling in the match but then had her ankle clipped and went down heavily. The result sadly was a broken wrist which will put the jet-paced attacker out of the game for the next five weeks.
Team NS drew 1-1 in that opener and Sadie and Alyse consoled their team-mate before continuing with the quest to get out of the group section with the provincial squad.
Both players did the island proud in the next two match as a 5-1 win over the Borussia Dortmund Academy from West Virginia was followed by an 8-1 thrashing of APEX Soccer Club from Reno, Nevada.
That set up a semi-final clash against Miami Futbol Academy Rush on Sunday and after a 1-1 tie with keeper Sadie and midfielder Alyse in the thick of the action the Nova Scotia girls lost 6-5 in a penalty shootout.
Ava is now on the road to recovery and Sadie and Alyse are back in club training as all three aim to be named in the final 18 for the Team NS Canada Games squad that will be decided at the end of March after the girls play in the Atlantic Championships.
